Résumé

This study examined the transmission pattern of Han Young Suk-style Taepyeongmu and presents a comparative analysis of original Taepyeongmu and current Taepyeongmu performances. The author of this study collected and examined existing studies based on a bibliography of literature and made a comparative analysis using visual materials. The study revealed a similarity between the two performances in that both are queen’s dances and that the latter has adopted the costume and overall musical composition of the former. On the other hand, the performances differ in terms of their rhythmic order and the number of beats in the music. In terms of choreography, current Taepyeongmu has developed the original choreography and added new choreography, thereby attaining a richer appearance in rhythm and choreography as a performing art and a greater artistic value. Han Young Suk-style Taepyeongmu has been popularized by her students after she passed away in 1989. While its appeal has been diffused through the personality of its inheritors, Han Young Suk-style Taepyeongmu was designated as an intangible cultural heritage in 2019. This study is meaningful in that it affirms the fundamental meaning of Taepyeongmu by examining the original meaning of Han Young Suk-style Taepyeongmu designated as a cultural heritage, understanding the transmission pattern of Taepyeongmu, and comparing the current and original choreographies of Taepyeongmu performances.
