A brief Study on the Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage of China

The project of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage(ICH) used to be one of the most importand issue of the cultural policy of Chinese government during the first decade of the 21st century. Facing the critical change and crisis of both domestic and international cultural environment, keeping pace with the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, chinese government has enforced the project of ICH since 2005. Through the nationwide investigation, the national inventory of ICH and the list of the representative transmitters was drew up and declared in 2006, which were updated every 2 or 3 years. The safeguarding ICH leaded by government showed successful performance(result) not only in the authentic safeguarding, but also in the advanced way, such as in the ecological safeguarding or productive safeguarding.
