Considering the debates about Brazilian heritage policies, especially those focused to intangible heritage, the purpose of this article is to analyze the motivations of two quilombo communities in the Ribeira Valley, in the south of the state of Sao Paulo, in the search for official recognition of their cultural references. In the same way, we intend to analyze the way in which they mediate cultural and natural heritage and elaborate their own historical narratives. In addition to revealing an integral conception of heritage, in which nature and culture are interdependent among themselves, these communities also demonstrate to what extent the tourist activity plays the role of communicating the history of the quilombola resistance and of attracting allies in defense of their territorial rights. |
