Skill characteristics and inheritance development of Hangzhou Xiaoshan Lace

Hangzhou Xiaoshan Lace was introduced in China from western countries, but in the past 100 years it has been developed to a unique style that integrates Chinese and Western cultures, and it has a long history and sophisticated craftsmanship. However, the industrial development of Xiaoshan Lace has encountered great difficulties. Not only is the industry scale shrinking, but also traditional craft has been on the verge of loss. Thus, the artistic features of Hangzhou Xisoshan Lace were summarized from the perspectives of techniques and patterns and a series of field researches and interviews with inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. Besides, the inheritance and innovation path design of traditional craft were discussed from the point to the area. The file information about industrial scale and national industry revenue of Xiaoshan Lace till the present was collected to revert its status in Chinese and Western cultural exchange history, art design history and textile technology development history and to map its contemporary value.
