Application of Retinex and histogram equalisation techniques for the restoration of faded and distorted artworks: A comparative analysis

Images and artworks form an integral part of research and intangible heritage. However the images are not always available in a good condition. So restoration and enhancement of the degraded and faded images are very much essential to obtain accurate information from them. In this paper a comparative performance analysis of different Histogram Equalization techniques and Retinex based methods for the restoration of old and almost damaged artworks is presented.
