Abstract

This article deals with the importance of scenes in oral culture which plays significant role in transfer of narrative styles to the future. In fact, narration is a kind of show and shows attach considerable weight to scenes. Scene is important for narration to sustain itself as well as for show to go on. The case examined in this study is the town of Yakaafşar, a town of Isparta province. Intensity of its population is one of the reasons of its richness in (oral) narrative styles. These scenes have sustained their existence, despite diminishing, until recent past and this is the most important reason for the survival of narrative styles. "Village halls" where moral values of the public are undeniably raised prevail among scenes and despite the fact that their days have almost ended village halls will continue to be subject-matters of social scientists, such as folklorists and sociologists, because of their functions in the past. Another scene of narrative culture in Yakaafsar is "threshing fields". "Mills" were among the important scenes of narrative culture, too. Goat stocks were taken care in "mountain pastures" in summers and in "folds" in winters. These places are also important for narrative culture. "Carpet workshops" are also prevailing ones. "Coffee shops" which have undertaken some functions of village halls still exist. These scenes, which have been a major part in our cultural life, have almost disappeared. People aged 60 and over who are active transporters of oral culture grown in these scenes face a real difficulty in transferring their cultural knowledge. In fact, these oral (narrative) productions, which are as valuable as treasures, must be incorporated in our national culture. The remaining oral cultural productions are urgently in need of compilation and classification in accordance with scientific methods by means of a field research.
