Abstract

There are various dishes, foods, recipes that are loaded with history and are part of the culture of a society. In Brazil, the food culture, besides being diversified, carries the history and formation of its people, an irrefutable reason for the importance of identifying it, recognizing it and especially preserving it, considering the particularities of the national territory. Based on this motivation, the study proposes as a study object a representative dish of Brazilian cuisine: the feijoada. The aim of the study was to inventory, analyze and present considerations that allow us to understand its origin, history and sociocultural importance. For the development, we opted for the exploratory research with qualitative approach, based on a bibliographic and documentary survey. The characteristics and influences that culminated in the formation of feijoada were discussed by researchers, which provided access to several publications, mostly historiographical studies. Finally, it can be said that feijoada carries importance for the Brazilian food culture, either by influence of the past or construction of the present.
