Abstract |
Arirang is the most popular folksong in Korea which was designated as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on December 5, 2012. Its application for UNESCO listing includes all versions of Arirang of ending with the words "Arirang, Arirang, Arariyo" in South Korea.After being designated as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, Arirang has drawn a lot of attention from all over the world and its international status has been enhanced continuously as well. Many Arirang performances, in particular, has been holding nationwideArirang which represents our ethnic sentiment shows diverse forms and contents.The characters of the performance teams are various as the layers of Arirang are also different. The team is usually divided into two teams, local folksong team and a professional team. Problem I takes place when local folksongs are performed by Korean classical folk music team. Local folksongs contain sentiment and life of normal people. Therefore, local folksong teams should get onto the stage and sing local arirang. If they are given many chances to perform they can contribute to restore community order in rural area.Arirang is a song of life itself and gives energy to get over hardships in life. Even though most of the folksongs are not handed down from prior generations, it is important for local folksongs to be performed on the stage as they are the sources of the ordinary people s life. Local Arirang should keep their root strong in order to communicate with audience and serve to leading community life and its villager s happiness. |
