Slovenian field and house names in the Austrian inventory of intangible cultural heritage

Slovenian field and house names in the region of Carinthia were added to the Austrian list of UNESCO intangible cultural heritage in 2010. Due to a favourable media response to Slovenian names as cultural heritage, the consideration of preserved domestic Slovenian names took a positive turn. Since place names had been a topic bearing a particular political load for decades, the turn towards cultural consideration was all the more important.
