Abstract

This chapter presents three related, yet exclusive, kinds of heritage as the result of different ways of promoting and managing the heritage site of Hu in southeast China: the tangible and intangible heritage of the folk religion of Hu that has been created and guarded by the local residents for over 900 years; the fabricated heritage of Hu through a large-scale construction led by the local government to promote tourism since the 1980s; and the government s plan to deconstruct the built environment and relocate all the residents to create a World Natural Heritage Site in recent years.
