Intangible Heritage: A Laban Movement Analysis of Taepyeongmu

Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) is an analysis technique used to explore the inner intention of human movement and the characteristics of expression. It is widely used in Human-Computer Interaction as well as in movement education, research, therapy, and creative activities. This study is a theoretical investigation into the concept of Effort and Motif Notation in LMA and analysis of Taepyeongmu s primary dance moves. The focus of the study is to analyze body use, movement patterns, and characteristics inherent in the movement, and to visualize the Effort and Motif with LMA s symbol system. The significance of this study is to establish basic data for LMA-based Taepyeongmu s movement glossary and suggest LMA as a teaching-learning and documenting method that can be applied in the transmission of Korean dance heritage.
