Resumen

In recent years, language documentation has become one of the main academic responses to the global problem of language substitution. The development of this field has not occurred without drawbacks and current social analysis of it remains fragmentary. In this paper, I present a preliminary analysis of the political economy and ideology behind these kinds of initiatives, first based on my own experience in southwestern Colombia and second by presenting the central elements of the academic and institutional discourse on cultural and linguistic diversity, intangible heritage and documentation.
