Inherited shaman had been the cradle and the path to produce artists continually. Throughout the middle of 20th century, shaman families have been dissolved, but the activities of danggol families are traditions that survived through generations. Inherited artists not only worked within the region, but also did external activities in an active manner and achieved artistic accomplishment. The Parks of Jindo, the main interest of this article, have produced splendid artists throughout generations, and his descendents have drawn the attention because they are still performing actively. Among them, Park, Jonggi, known to be the founder of Daegumsanjo is especially famous, and Park, Byungcheon, a master of Jindo sitgimgut is well-known, too. Their importance was found in the fact there have been active studies about their presence such as “Park, Jonggi’s critical biograpphy’ and ‘The reconstruction study of Park’s genealogy’. However, the existing study have given too much attention to the artistic accomplishment of the artists that less attention was paid to the contextual issues surrounding them.Inherited artists are very keen to the social appraisal. Those from shaman families were disdained so much that they strenuously searched for the artistic path in order to overcome their social position. The external activities of artists which oriented from their endeavor provided the opportunity to expand the artistic horizon and achieve individual accomplishments. This fact begs for attention. On the other hand, the accomplishments of external activities do flow into the region. In such a process, there comes a change in the transmission of gut in the region. Internal and external activities are intertwined that they need to be taken into consideration together. The fact that the evaluation about Inherited artists is complex asks for discretion. Those who are directly involved or the descendents speak out how they were mistreated under the guise of receiving good treatment. This fact needs to be examined. This article will focus mainly on Park, Jonggi and Park, Byungcheon and examine the relationship between the external activities of inherited artists and the internal activities, and contemplate on the duality of social awareness toward inherited artists. |
