Discussion on the Difficulties and Strategies during the Inheritance and Development of Traditional Handicraft in Suzhou

Traditional handcraft is a treasure in Chinese intangible cultural heritage and a jewel in Chinese 5000 years civilization as well as the dynamic for the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture. However, with the advent of global economic integration, Chinese society and economy have a rapid development correspondingly. With the advanced science and technology, mechanization replacing manual operation has been a fundamental method to increase the economic benefits for the enterprises, which bring great shocks to the inheritance and development of traditional handcraft itself. This paper analyzes the historical development and status quo of the traditional handcraft in Suzhou by taking the inheritance and development of Suzhou traditional handcraft as object summarizes the dilemma during its inheritance and development, such as outflow of handicraftsman, inconsistence between traditional handicraft and modern social demands and function disorder of government etc; and proposes corresponding strategies.
