This study makes visible the dynamic work of rural women through their crafts. Throughout history, rural women have played a productive role in society, being essential protagonists with their daily work, knowledge of the environment and the practice of inherited craft methods. The tecedeiras and coroceiras of the region of Orcellón (Ourense) are an example of how, with the trades active until the mid-20th century, the rural environment was revitalised. The activities, processes and expressions surrounding those trades are intangible heritage that requires the safeguarding indicated by UNESCO (2003), and we have the possibility of accessing them through women bearers.Safeguarding this heritage by creating synergies between cultural, educational and women s associations, presenting the intangible heritage and identity in an attractive way and creating educational resources for new generations is still possible. In this respect, we work with a qualitative methodology, field research with techniques such as discussion groups and life stories, in a dialogical modality, using a sample of 25 rural women who are knowledgeable about proto-industrial activities and processes. |
