Cultural Politics of Intangible Cultural Heritage－focused on the korean response to UNESCO regime－

UNESCO s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and its registration system are exerting strong influence on the cultural production in any country. And the registration competition rising in Korea, China and Japan, is making the UNESCO regime the cultural battlefield. It is the unintended consequence, so that UNESCO is putting forth a multilateral effort into solving the problem. But in my opinion, it isn t easy to solve the problem. Because UNESCO regime isn t exempt from the global context today, in that the cultural political scape unfolded in a variety of ways.This paper is assuming UNESCO regime the dynamic and symbolic field that the every space in a world that deterritorialized with the globalization is reterritorialized on the newly multiple ways. And it analyse how Korea is involved in that field s cultural war. The transformation of the legal system of intangible cultural property with it s own rules and norms for the past 50 years ; the new classification of intangible cultural heritage replaced the intangible cultural property ; those are the main focuses of the examination. And this paper pays special attentions to the hybridization between the global convention and domestic system and the reconsolidation of state s control over culture.
