The 12 pieces of gasa (歌詞, classical vocal genre) handed down today are vocal music enjoyed by intellectuals at pungnyubang (a place where they enjoy music and poetry) in the late Joseon Dynasty. Their originality and cultural historical value have been recognized and thus they have been designated as national intangible cultural heritage as a way to preserve them at the national level. However, practical educational activities using the 12 gasa have not been carried out in the actual field, and research data that can be used for education is lack. Accordingly, this study suggests teaching and learning contents for singing the 12 gasa so that those gasa can be used in the music curriculum. The research contents are as follows. First of all, this study extracts learning content elements for teaching the 12 gasa singing within the content system of the current curriculum. Based on this, it composes teaching and learning contents that would help to understand the musical structure of the 12 gasa , and presents the teaching and learning contents in a hierarchical manner according to the grade level of the students. The 12 gasa should be kept alive and passed on as traditional Korean vocal music. It will be possible to maintain that legacy by allowing students to access music and be familiar with it in school education. Therefore, this study can serve as a basis for correctly understanding music and transmitting culture by using the 12 gasa for education. |
