Celebrating an identity: the past uses to enhance paraibanity in music Paraiba Joia Rara

Music throughout history has been incorporated into our daily lives, being present in the most varied moments of our lives. Thus, it reminds us of a variety of feelings such as joy, sadness and longing. Since the beginning of the 20th century, several songs were composed using the sentimental premise of belonging. Thus, many of them were created in the midst of the cultural industry with the aim of awakening the enhancement of an identity, whether national, regional or even local. It is through this construction that we will focus on one of these songs that became Intangible Cultural Heritage of the state of Paraiba. Paraiba Joia Rara uses the past to enhance and celebrate the history and culture of Paraiba. Therefore, we will focus on this object to try to understand its relationship with the heritage, cultural identity, history and people of Paraiba. For this, we will use the reflections of Castagna (2016) and Soares (2017), which helped us to understand the dialogues between Brazilian Musical Heritage and history teaching. We believe that this research is important to make us better understand these constructions that enhance an identity, as well as to contribute to the field and safeguard the Brazilian Musical Heritage.
