How to value the immaterial heritage of biodiversity and contribute to the conservation of threatened flora: a challenge for the protected areas of La Reunion and other French Overseas "Departements-Conservation programs on threatened flora may benefit from the increase of material and immaterial, natural and cultural, heritage protection projects, especially those initiated by UNESCO. The double prospect of developing activities for both the biodiversity and the cultural heritage conservation in areas such as national parks and regional natural parks is a main asset for the French Overseas "Departements" and La Reunion Island in particular, which have experienced a partial loss of their memory and their cultural heritage by past colonialism and slavery. The field of ethnology, in charge of inventoring this immaterial cultural heritage, is strenghtened in a pluridisciplinary approach to serve governance of local and global biodiversity which can reunify stakeholders of conservation, tourism development and valuation of cultural heritage.
