Resumen

Figuig Oasis, located in Eastern Morocco, is a settlement whose ancient core is mainly composed of earthen household units and walled gardens. Historical accounts suggest that it was founded in early Islamic times by Amazigh (also called Berbers) tribes. This paper is primarily concerned with the relation between ancient socio-political organization and architectural layout and technology. The first type of analysis concerns the general settlement pattern, while the second refers to traditional building materials and collective work.
