The aim of this article is to analyze traditional knowledge of materials and things on the Juk-bang-ryeom[竹防簾], handed down at the JiJok Strait[知足海峽] in the southern sea, Korea. The Juk-bang-ryeom is one of the oldest and the primitive fishery tools in korea, operating by a fast stream from a wide gap of the ebb and the flow of the tide. It needs various traditional knowledge of nature and space, concerning of the geographical features above and below the sea, the tide, the dept of the sea, tide time and the habits of fishes etcs.. It have been made of bamboo, oak tree and other several materials. The perceptions and concerning skills about establishing of fishery tools, catching and manufacturing of anchovy(Maelchi) are traditional knowledge of materials and things on the Juk-bang-ryeom. Traditional knowledge of materials and things are scientific and indigenous one based on folk fishery and local ecological conditions. It is very important intangible cultural heritage handed down by our ancestors. Therefore we should research traditional knowledge of materials and things and plan the way for maintenance and conservation and usage of the Juk-bang-ryeom. The establishment of the Juk-bang-ryeom museum is one way for conservation and transmission of the concerning culture complex.
