Seen from the great stream of urban development, it focused on economic growth and development centered towards the industrial city around the world up to the 20th century. But people, capital, technology, culture and the like have come to move freely beyond the boundary as the knowledged-based society has developed with the remarkable development of transportation and communications in the 21th century. As a result, places of cities and regions beyond the unit of ‘country’ have been integrated into the worldwide market structure and changed into the mutually competitive composition. In this situation, each of the cities has come to break from an existing approach of the industrial city and to make an attempt at urban development from a new viewpoint. Reflecting the new change, such terms as ‘regional regeneration’, ‘urban regeneration’, ‘creative city’, ‘village-making’, ‘soft city’, ‘regional culture contents’, and ‘glocalization’ have emerged. These terms are somewhat different in phase but the reality is that the same orientation exists in a strategy of newly discovering the meanings of the value, people, life and living space inherent in the region and culturally reconstituting and revitalizing them from a future perspective. And its object focuses on the city but it can be said that the above terms are within the category of the basically similar concept in that they are identical up to the dimension of the village of the region in terms of its basic principle reflected in them. This study attempted to present the limitless value of the intangible heritage of the fable ‘Yeon-oh-rang Se-oh-nyeo’ and the tangible heritage of ‘Chilpori Petroglyphs’ of Pohang City which has basically developed into the industrial city and currently maintains its aspect as it stands. It presented the clue for Pohang City to change into a soft city of harmoniously coexisting culture and industry and be reborn as a creative cultural city both in name and in reality. |
