This study discussed the characteristics and roles of Taekgyeon preservation society by comparing to other 3 representative Taekgyeon associations. As the results, Taekgyeon preservation society had the characteristics as follows. First, it was more regulated by the ‘law for preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritages’ as a preservation association officially designated by CHA. Second, it had very narrow purpose and restricted working area to preserve Taekgyeon as the preservation association of national intangible cultural heritage. Third, it could have members only defined by the law and their duties and rights were focused on preservation and transmission. Fourth, it s representative works were open exhibition and transmission education, and those were supported by public budget. On the base of above comparison results, this study suggested following roles for Taekgyeon preservation society. First, it had to preserve the original form of the intangible cultural heritage, and educate the transmitters. Second, it had to represent and mediate the advantages of Taekgyeon associations under the ‘law for promotion of traditional martial arts’ and concerned policies as the preservation association. Third, it had to research and make standards of unified terms and skill systems of Taekgyeon. |
