Resumen

The city of Murcia, on the right bank of the river Segura, has the Hydraulic Museum: Los Molinos del río Segura. In the Middle Ages, located outside the city walls, there was already a mill in the same place. Its history is important and very extensive. These milling facilities have always suffered from the flooding of the Segura River. The work of the millers has been exemplary over the centuries, an intangible heritage. In the 18th century, the Count of Floridablanca from Murcia, José Moñino, announced to the Murcia City Council that work would be carried out on the Puente Nuevo, Pared del río and Molinos. It was April 1785 and the Project was directed by Manuel Serrano, Architect Director of Roads, who was in these lands directing several public works projects. A stone building was erected, parallel to the riverbed, in a longitudinal way that first had 21 stones and later 24 stones. This magnificent building is still alive. In the 20th century the building was restored and inaugurated in April 1989. The Project was entrusted to the architect D. Juan Navarro Baldeweg (1939) who transformed it into a Hydraulic Museum, being an emblematic example of the regional architecture of Murcia.
