Abstract This study examines the state of the material and immaterial heritage elements of the municipality of Sitio Nuevo, Magdalena, which is threatened by multiple elements that threaten its stability over time, affecting the identity of the inhabitants of the municipality in its heritage aspects. A study was carried out with the participation of (242) students from the departmental educational institution San José, with ages ranging from (4) to (16) years. The development of the research was carried out from the qualitative approach using as instruments a participant observation record, field diary, record interviews and analysis of documents, inquiring about relevant information of the assets that are threatened or affected to determine conservation alternatives. This work process allowed the construction of elements that allowed the community and the department to present a better perspective of the municipality, highlighting the importance and intervention of research as a mechanism that allows cultural development in students, teachers and the community.Keywords: material heritage, intangible heritage, research as an IEP pedagogical strategy.
