Musical Traditionin Chungnam Onyang Asan:The Primary Research of a Small town Nongak in Danger

Onyang-Asan nongak in Chungcheongnam-do; central Korean region, which has a geographical feature that connects Korea peninsula vertically and horizontally, has not received enough attention in academia compared to previous studied nongak as a community ritual. The substance of nongak in the Udari; southern Korean region has been reveal ed in many studies; however, Onyang-Asan community nongak and folklore remain unexplored. Unfortunately, researcher’s apathy in the field of Korean music toward the folklore failed to preserve musical tradition and ceremonial feature about this small nongak for their local guild. Therefore, researchers in this field have to contemplate how this failure in the academic world have caused what negative results in the real world and how they affect to the young generation’s mind and thought in this community. Without academic support from professional researchers and policy supporting from the authority; however, it was deserved to appreciate that he conducted the project by his own individual efforts, and led Onyang-Asan Cultural Association which he and his friends organized with. Their activities have focused on field work for collecting primary data and interview, which is the elderly who remember the ceremony and their cultural mutation.
