Resumen |
The municipality of Lisbon is committed to the promotion of the city from the 2000s onwards. To this end, it is building the Marca Lisboa on the basis of its old centre. Due to the lack of a sufficiently remarkable heritage, the elected representatives obtained the inscription of Fado on the Unesco Intangible World Heritage List in 2011. This distinction comes at a time when the rehabilitation of the Mouraria district, which has little to do with the history of fado, is being undertaken. However, very quickly, it is presented as the “cradle of fado”. The article sets out to analyse and understand the mechanisms that make fado (intangible heritage) a tangible characteristic of the area. |
