Abstract

This article describes the results of research whose aim was to identify to what degree a knowledge management system can contribute to safeguarding the immaterial cultural heritage of Barranquilla's Carnival. The study resorted to lexicographical techniques as a concrete methodology during the phase of compiling materials, making possible the storage, analysis and evaluation of the information in all written documents, in order to construct a corpus of terms for this festival. Likewise, a knowledge management system was designed according to the recommendations for safeguarding data given by UNESCO. In addition, more than 800 terms related to Barranquilla's Carnival were identified using a digital lexicographical card designed for this purpose. Amethodology was consolidated for the safeguard and a model for managing the Immaterial Cultural Heritage was created.
