Cultural Landscape: new conceptual expansion of heritage

This paper discusses the heritage with emphasis on the recent incorporation of the cultural landscape as an equity instrument, implemented in the 1990. The methodological basis of this study is the literature review. At first, it was a brief flyover in the emergence of the modern concept of heritage that appears for the first time, in eighteenth-century Europe; we will see that the heritage while preserving political entered the cultural dimension to the understanding of built assets, expanding their field in the twentieth century. In the second phase, in the light of international documents prepared by Unesco, shows the consolidation of the cultural landscape as understanding of heritage. The cultural landscape emerges as an effort to overcome the old gap between tangible and intangible heritage, enabling the relational dialogue between them, and gather traditional life ways. Finally, the author presents two examples of the implementation of the cultural landscape in Brazil - one registered as world heritage by Unesco and the other sanctioned at national level.
