This article presents a discussion about ethnicity based on interpretations of symbolic elements identified in the narratives of the interviewees participating in a field research carried out in a traditional religious community of African origin, about ancestry. Thus, enabling the understanding of the real and the ethnic senses and their ethnicities. Therefore, considering this category as a principle that guides symbolic constructions and still responsible for the traces of the repertoires of ethnic identity and vectors of ethnicities. To do so, it was used as methodology, the Study of Symbolic Forms - Depth Hermeneutics-HP, elaborated by John B. Thompson (1995), whose work framework is based on ethnography, having the data analysis structured observing the contexts in which symbolic forms are produced and interpreted. This methodology provides us with a discussion of what ethnicity is present in the source narratives of this article. Keywords: Ethnicity; Ancestrality; Ethnic identity; Symbolic forms. |
