Abstract

The purpose of this study is to focus on the changes in the formation and development process of Jang Hong-sim s Baraseungmu. The research method is based on the literature research method and Jang Hong-sim s only performance video (11th Korean Myeongmujeon Performance Video in 1984) and Jang Hong-sim s interview data. First, the formation of Baraseungmu should be regarded as a result of the protest of the Buddhist community and the suppression of the Japanese colonial government, which accepted the performance as an insult to Buddhism. Second, through the step-by-step development of Jang Hong-sim s dance activities, Jang Hong-sim s unique dance style, which combines Hamheung Kwonbeon s dance style and Han Sung-jun s dance style, should be seen as highly distinctive and intangible heritage-worthy. Currently, Yi Seong-ja is the only disciple who is transmitting Jang Hong-sim and Baraseungmu. Therefore, I hope that through more interest from the dance world, Jang Hong-sim s Baraseungmu will be able to maintain its original form and develop.
