Abstract

Important intangible cultural asset refers to an intangible cultural asset designated and considered to bear great historical, artistic, and academic values, among intangible products of culture, including play, music, dance, and crafts, after due deliberation of Cultural Properties Committee. When designating an important intangible cultural asset, it is mandatory to specify the name of holder for the asset designated or holding organization for the team event. Management of intangible cultural assets is classified into three categories; discovery and designation, transmission and preservation, and dissemination. All of these are equally important. Intangible cultural assets are what is actualized and passed down to another by human being with great perishability, which lays great emphasis on transmission. It is not going too far to say that the intangible cultural assets could be preserved, if it were not for state-sponsored protection policy. There are several big problems despite great values of these systems for cultural assets. What is the true meaning of intangible cultural heritage system? We need to think for whom and which it is designed in the first place. Good communication among holder, transmiitter, learner, and environment is required to discover, protect and preserve cultural assets under proper criteria. That is, we need a cultural asset that is widely recognized by anyone. In order to preserve the values of a cultural asset, its surrounding environment and condition should be always adequate. True meaning of soteria represent adequacy. A close review is needed for the remedies and improvements of transmission system. This study is particularly meaningful for being a fundamental channel for restoration, preservation, and communication of cultural assets.
