Abstract

Ssireum is a martial art and play with a universal human meaning. According to the researches so far, about 160 kinds of Ssireum are found in each continent and region around the world. Tae-joon Uhm, “A Comparative Study on the Wrestling of Korean Nationals and Other Countries”.The Ssireum that started as part of instinctive physical activity for survival is one of mankind s oldest crafts. Countries and nations around the world have developed individualistic wrestling in a given natural environment and historical conditions. From this point of view, the Ssireum of the existing nations and peoples is a valuable intangible cultural heritage that has constituted the diverse lives and experiences of mankind.Ssireum is a living legacy that has been associated with the Korean people for a long time. In that sense, Ssireum is a valuable intangible heritage for both Koreas. At present, the Korean people are divided into the territories, nations and nations as North and South, but intangible heritage exists as one. The land is divided, but the intangible heritage is shared with each other. Ssireum is one of them.Ssireum is the language of the body that carries the soul of the nation. The ssirum was an inseparable relation with the Koreans and formed the homogeneity and bond between the members and played a role in bringing about the national harmony. When the invasion of foreign powers or the nation was in crisis, the Ssireum acted as a support and a center point to preserve the nation and to awaken the national spirit. However, the division divided the Ssireum into two. This will be a good source to revive the diversity of Korean wrestling in the future.
