The Development Phase of Arirang before and after the Division and the Search for Arirang s Act to Restore the National Community

Arirang, South Korea and North Korea, started on the soil of Arirang, which was built before the division. But after the division, Arirang of South and North walked in different ways. South Korea Arirang showed civilian leadership in accordance with its cultural preferences, while North Arirang has pursued public supply in accordance with the Party s literary policy. As a result, South Korea and North Korea s Arirang lose their cultural consensus, and the distance is considerable. The event has been steadily continuing to reaffirm that the two Koreas are singing “Arirang” together, but they could not achieve the effective effect of narrowing the cultural distance of Arirang.If this is the case, we will need a more fundamental and practical approach to the cultural dimension in order to narrow the cultural distance between two Koreas of Arirang and to enhance cultural consensus. To this end, it is necessary first to explore the interactions between North and South Arirang, which are in a heterogeneous phase, and to establish a foundation for restoring the cultural consensus of Arirang.However, it is difficult to raise cultural jointity between two Koreas of Arirang. Therefore, we must resolve the issue right now, establish a shared phase with the contact point, and go on to gradually expand it and make continuous efforts. From this point of view, South and North Korea should push forward the joint registration of Arirang s UNESCO humanity intangible cultural heritage. Through this project, Arirang debate will be carried out between the two Koreas, and further work will be required to restore the cultural consensus of Arirang. Arirang is not just to symbolize the ‘one’, but to be a mediator of ‘one’.
