Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze the role of tourism in preserving and promoting the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of Sikkim, a region renowned for its unique cultural tapestry and natural scenic beauty. It attempts to focus on various aspects of ICH, comprising oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, and traditional knowledge, highlighting their importance in expressing Sikkim s cultural identity. Moreover, the study meticulously showcases successful case studies from the region, illustrating how tourism initiatives have significantly influenced local culture and ultimately contributed to the sustainability of their traditions. Furthermore, the study also delves into the profound challenges that can impact the region s cultural landscape. Despite these challenges, this paper aims to provide valuable insights for policymakers, cultural practitioners, and stakeholders to consider the potential of tourism by carefully analyzing the relationship between tourism and intangible cultural heritage. © 2025 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
