Abstract

This text presents an analysis, the result of field research, regarding the challenges faced by immaterial cultural assets protected or not, which are reinvented at each cultural presentation, in different Brazilian territorial spaces. To facilitate the understanding of the problem, two situations will be analyzed, that is, two Popular Parties in a municipality in the interior of Minas Gerais - Sao Sebastiao do Paraiso - one being protected by the legal tool Registro since 2010, Festa do Congado and Mocambique, and another that still does not have legal protection, Festa de Santos Reis. The problem will be related to the cultural impact that protection has on cultural goods and the cases in which the good is not protected, but struggles to stay alive.
