Abstract

Three papers are presented focusing on the cultural politics of heritage-making in South East Asia. The first paper deals with the efforts of the Thai state to incorporate the ethnic Khmer folk music genre of kantruem into Thailand s national intangible cultural heritage. The second paper presents a critique of the designation of the historic centre of Hoi An (Vietnam) as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The third paper studies the debates surrounding the future of Yangon s colonial-era court buildings.
