The work included research into the existing usage of the Silk Road identity, connections between key destinations through tangible and intangible heritage, and the potential of a Western Silk Road tourism brand. Concepts were developed to strengthen the use of such a brand to bring benefits to destinations and two capacity building workshops were held on how to progress from theory to practice in developing the Western Silk Road as a transnational tourism route.
