It is a kind of special cultural carrier, with its intangible characteristics. However, traditional methods of protecting intangible cultural heritage have some flaws. Digital protection has emerged as a new development trend. Taking the 3D digital experiment of Duan inkstone as an example, the virtual image of the real 3D texture of Duan inkstone was constructed by combining 3D scanning with digital photogrammetry. But there are obvious problems in the development. The attraction of it is insufficient, and the offline display channel is weakened. This article focuses on the various challenges encountered in the development and protection of intangible cultural heritage in China and explores how 3D digital technology can play an indispensable role in this key field, providing strong support for building a comprehensive, vivid, and sustainable cultural resource database.
