The double prospect of developing activities for both the biodiversity and the cultural heritage conservation in areas such as national parks and regional natural parks is a main asset for the French Overseas "Departements" and La Reunion Island in particular, which have experienced a partial loss of their memory and their cultural heritage by past colonialism and slavery. The field of ethnology, in charge of inventoring this immaterial cultural heritage, is strenghtened in a pluridisciplinary approach to serve governance of local and global biodiversity which can reunify stakeholders of conservation, tourism development and valuation of cultural heritage.
