The approach towards two aspects, the preservation of more consolidated cultural archetypes and the transmission and the use of cultural heritage in a freer manner, is part of the reflection on their value and use. This study focuses on the Honam region, not only the systematic device for the protection of intangible cultural heritage but also the cultural contents, that is, cultural archetypes and storytelling in the context of the cultural industry. In this study, I divided the Honam region into two areas, the Jeonju/Jeonbuk area and the Gwangju/Jeonnam area, and discussed their cultural contents in two categories, intangible cultural heritage and village tutelary festivals in relation to their use and application. I regarded the current theory covering both the Cultural Properties Protection Law and the use of cultural contents as a separate approach because I believed that both had imposed a certain frame on the transmission and protection of cultural heritage. The imposition led to the birth of ‘artificial folk culture’ in which all are put into a prearranged frame and only specific, rather then general, forms of cultural legacy were selected for the transmission and protection efforts. I concluded that such results were connected with the separate approaches towards cultural contents. My discussion in the last part of the main text was focused on the tendency of making factions on the basis of intangible heritage, folklore in particular, reviewing it in relation with festivals and theme parks. Finally, I concluded that one of the most effective methods for the protection, preservation, use and application of the intangible cultural properties in the Honam region should be to create a system in which their economic or cultural effects returns to the ‘place’ where they were born. a1229-6953
