This study has difference from existing researches in that this is researched from a policy point of view to manage the Culture of Jeju Haenyeo as heritage. ‘Culture of Jeju Haenyeo’ refers to the culture of knowledge, skills and rituals and women divers who have lived based on the sea in Jeju. ‘Culture of Jeju Haenyeo’ include tangible‧intangible elements created from diving activities, such as diving skills and folk knowledge, a shamanic belief system, ‘Haenyeo Norae’(haenyeo song), cultural spaces, working tools and clothes, and customs of Haenyeo community. In 2015, ‘Jeju Haenyeo Fisheries System’ was designated as Korea important fisheries heritage systems, in 2016 it was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, and designated as a national intangible cultural property ‘Haenyeo’ throughout Korea in 2017.The decline and aging of the haenyeo are the most threat factor for sustainability of ‘Culture of Jeju Haenyeo’. National intangible cultural property systems support the transmission of transmitter about the designated properties. In case of Haenyeo, however, it should be supported in a different way because Haenyeo didn’t registered as specific transmitter. In response to the above problems faced by ‘Culture of Jeju Haenyeo’, this study examines the preservation and utilization of ‘Culture of Jeju Haenyeo’ focused on sustainable development, implied economic, social and environmental sustainability. This paper has drawn up management directions for the preservation and utilization of ‘Culture of Jeju Haenyeo’ in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, a member of the transmission community, in three aspects of sustainable development a1598-3870
