Joyería barroca andina: el pasado como desafío del presente

Las joyas en tanto objeto forman parte de un patrimonio cultural que se resignifica según el contexto de producción y uso. El artículo aborda la joyería barroca que usan las mujeres cholas de la ciudad de La Paz en las fiestas patronales y en otras particulares como elemento de distinción y prestigio, pero también de aspiraciones. Esa joyería barroca, si bien tiene origen en un pasado colonial, hoy adquiere nuevos significados que tienden a posicionar a la mujer indígena y mestiza de La Paz en un lugar de mayor reconocimiento. En tal sentido, el objeto “joya barroca” nos permite reflexionar sobre imaginarios en torno a la mujer chola, a las discriminaciones étnicas y de género, a los consumos culturales diversos y a los mercados que homogenizan y diferencian. La idea de patrimonio cultural que recorre el artículo se fundamenta en un punto de vista dinámico, que nos permite continuar reflexionando sobre los distintos sentidos de un acto cultural o de un objeto.  Jewels as an object are part of a cultural heritage that is re-signified according to the context of production and use. The article deals with the baroque jewelry worn by the Cholas women of the city of La Paz in the patron saint festivities and in other private parties as an element of distinction and prestige, but also of aspirations. Although this baroque jewelry has its origin in a colonial past, today it acquires new meanings that tend to position the indigenous and mestizo woman of La Paz in a place of greater recognition. In this sense, the “baroque jewel” object allows us to reflect on the imaginary around the Chola woman, ethnic and gender discrimination, diverse cultural consumption and markets that homogenize and differentiate. The idea of cultural heritage that runs through the article is based on a dynamic point of view, which allows us to continue reflecting on the different meanings of a cultural act or an object
