Resumen

To finish my doctorate in social memory at UNIRIO, I wrote a work about the intergenerational transmission of the samba de roda in the Reconcavo Baiano in times of patrimonialization. However, before choosing the dance that would be the research center, I traveled to several places in Brazil, knowing different afro-brazilian "rodas" of dance and music, historically called batuques. This article aims to present a brief ethnography where I include reflections and hypotheses about performance, memory and transmission that emerged from this experience, in a historical moment in which the afro-Brazilian cultures struggle to give continuity to their intangible cultural heritage.
