Status Quo \& Future Strategies of Pansori, A World Intangible Cultural Heritage

This study reflected on the Pansori status for last 10 years in order to check up the status of Pansori as a world intangible cultural heritage and suggested the tasks for Pansori s development in the future. This study tried to propose a future strategies for Pansori s transmission by investigating the spirit of UNESCO Convention and its fulfillment, the status quo of Korean intangible cultural assets management-relevant institutions. It is very encouraging that Korean intangible cultural assets management-relevant institutes are improved under the great awareness of the world heritages protection and transmission. Nevertheless, it was found that several conditions related to the certification of Pansori singers were need to improved, and specific efforts for actively transmitting the Pansori were more required.For these goals, this study reflected on the spirit of UNESCO s Convention and investigated Korean Intangible Properties Protection Law. Especially, some problems and tasks to be solved were proposed by reviewing the Pansori singers status and the designated data for consideration. Meanwhile, this study reported the improvement direction of current Cultural Properties Protection Law and the opening of National Intangible Heritages Center, and proposed the direction for the Pansori to go toward in the future.The life of Pansori as a world intangible cultural heritage is relied on its transmission in the future. Although it needs to recover a community s culture of course, but the establishment of strategies suitable for the changing environment and the communication with the future generations will be put before that. Pansori needs to progressively approach to the public, not being afraid of changes. We should not forget that the drive force continually to circulate the cycle of a Pansori s creation, choice and extinction will eventually be generated from us.
