AB - This chapter critically evaluates the commonalities and distinctions between the religious dramatic presentations of Passion Plays in three European countries, each representing different Christian denominations: (i) Paros, Greece, symbolizing Eastern Orthodoxy; (ii) Skofja Loka, Slovenia, representing Roman Catholicism; and (iii) Oberammergau Passion Play, Germany, refecting Protestantism. Religions worldwide incorporate a rich tapestry of religious events that carry deep spiritual signifcance for local communities. However, due to their unique characteristics, originality and authenticity, these events also pique the interest of tourists. Religious festivals, ceremonies and rituals often extend to encompass various activities such as fairs, gastronomic events and exhibitions. It describes how these events are organized and operate as religious or tourist acts and will investigate visitors  potential motives (e.g. religious instruction, spiritual exhilaration, enjoyment of the simple country life). Passion Plays hold a distinctive place among religious events. Passion Plays are a matching blend of tradition and contemporary relevance, fostered through intergenerational dialogue and religious devotion. Through these case studies, this chapter aims to shed light on the multifaceted nature of Passion Plays and their role as bridges between religious traditions and the world of tourism.
