As culture and history got to be recorded, brushes not only played a role of a simple tool to record them but also expanded into a tool to be able to express them. As people’s mental factors and wisdom got to be recorded and there were many things which can be expressed, brushes got to get deeply involved with the development of study and art of each country and played a role of making each culture colorful and rich. Accordingly, brushes were recognized as a simple tool to record culture, mental and symbolic significations were added to them.Brushes have a very rich history as a tool of paintings and calligraphic works. There was a complex and long process until brushes were invented, which is the civilized result obtained through human practice. After a basic form of Chinese brushes was decided, various reforms and development were still done. Brushes have continued to be improved to meet demands shown in national culture over time. This change of brushes enabled people to express works of art and records more delicately and played an sgnificant role of leaving developed works of art. Change of rich culture and the history of records by period could be more specifically checked through the history of the development of brushes.Production techniques of brushes include the most primitive Gonchalsik, Napipsik, Simnapsik, and Hyeopnapsik which were gradually developed in the form of Pijubeop, Jeonjibeop, and Santakbeop. All the production techniques of brushes in the three countries in East Asia are developed and transmitted based on Santakbeop.Brush crafts villages were created in each country due to culture to study excellent production techniques of brushes under teachers and produce them by cooperating with one another. Xuancheng and Huzhou were famous for brushes in China. Korea transmits the production techniques focusing on a technique of writing brushes made of goat hair, the dry production technique. But China mostly makes various forms of brushes using a wet production technique.People have been making more advanced brushes by studying materials and production techniques to express new thoughts and rituals well. New techniques were popular for each period, and techniques developed in the next generation were passed down. It was also passed down through exchanges between countries, and new production techniques were created in the passed down countries.
