AB - The municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz (Alentejo-Portugal) has a vast and rich intangible cultural heritage. The legends from the oral tradition are an example of this heritage and have received little attention in studies on the culture of the Alentejo region. This article therefore presents a set of legends from the oral tradition of Reguengos de Monsaraz and examines the themes and motifs that qualify them as traditional Portuguese legends. It also intends to expand current knowledge of the legends of the Portuguese oral tradition, to reflect on the presence of supernatural elements in the corpus presented and to highlight the importance of the corpus as intangible cultural heritage.
