TY - JOUR AU - Lee MiHee AU - Kim Un-Mi AB - The purpose of this study is to explore alternative scientific preservation methods that can minimize a possible controversy over dances designated as national intangible cultural assets, which has always been a hotly debated issue. First of all, we closely examined the changing process of the Cultural Heritage Protection Act, in order to investigate the development process of the current system. In addition, the survey indexes (individual items) in relation to intangible heritage holders, transmission teaching assistants and learners as well as their limitations were analyzed, and the status of the scientific preservation-related studies were reviewed. As a result, this study suggested a scientific alternative for an effective preservation of national intangible cultural heritages in the dance field.
