Today the city is undergoing a great transformation, as a consequence of tourism: the transforming should be controlled through the knowledge of the characteristics of traditional construction. The survey on field and the identification of the local building traditions should be the base for the drafting of the Manuali del Recupero (Restoration Manual). The second case of study concerns a small town in the north of El Salvador, Izalco. The Spanish occupation during the XVI century led to a partial cancellation of urban native structure, linked to the Mayan tradition. Izalco has not yet been invested by mass tourism but is trying, with various actions to enhance and promote, to exploit the enormous potential of the natural environment. Directing these actions to active conservation of tangible and intangible heritage was one of the objectives of the research program carried out. a978-88-548-4841-2
